Duties of the Position: | Manages and leads the Junior Sailing Program – Report to the Board of DirectorsInterface, advise and report program activities and daily developments to Board members – Assist Registrar with communications to parent/students – Provide session metrics; actual enrollment – Track Instructor hours, report them to board, assure timely submission of time sheetsInterface with JYC Membership and Leadership as needed – Conduct and supervise sailing classes at all levels following the curriculumGreet all participants on 1st day of each new session – Create a safe and positive learning experience for our children, developing and overseeing seamanlike discipline on the water, including safe boat handling and proper care of the Club equipment – Resolve any student and/or parent conflicts, concerns or strife that emerges – Supervise the other instructor(s) & volunteers – Review and modify schedules to meet needs of each class & session – Provide assistance to instructors with lesson plans, on water drills and mentor as needed – Optimize instructors’ development as teachers & leaders – Be a sounding board and go to resource for instructors – Maintain club sailboats, motorboats and sailing equipment – Lead fleet maintenance; trouble shooting, repairing, picking up needed supplies and hardware, assign tasks to Instructors to keep fleet & facilities in optimal condition |
Qualifications: | – Age: 21+ and enjoy working with children – Strong sailing skills and sailing competition experience – Knowledge of all aspects of Opti, 420 including spinnaker and trapeze use – Competency in boat handling of motor boats – Competency in day to day sailing fleet maintenance – Strong leadership skills – Able to lead, prioritize and delegateStrong communication and organizational skills – Experience teaching all levels of sailors – Certifications: * Active US Sailing Small Boat Instructor Level 1 Certification (required) * Level 2 Certification (preferred) * Current Red Cross Advanced First Aid and CPR/AED Certification |
